The treecreepers is a small family of perching birds, with 8 species found mainly in Europe and Asia. One species, the brown creeper, is found in North America and another is found in India and Africa. Treecreepers are all very similar in appearance. They are small, brown-patterned birds that hop up and down tree trunks, giving the impression that they are “creeping” on trees. They have stiff tail feathers that help to support them while they cling to the vertical surfaces of trees. They are solitary and do not migrate. Treecreepers use their curved bills to extract insects from under tree bark.
