Alcedinidae
There are 84 species of kingfishers distributed all around the world. Kingfishers all have large heads with long bills. Their necks and bodies are short, and so are their legs. Many kingfishers specialize in eating fish, like the belted kingfisher of North America. The Australian kookaburra , famous for its laughing sounds, is also a member of this family.
